According to IRIB, pilots’ union Vereinigung Cockpit said the strike will now include long-haul flights scheduled for Thursday.
Lufthansa had already cancelled 750 out of a total of 1,400 short- and medium-haul flights in Germany and Europe.
Initially, the 24-hour walkout by pilots was scheduled for between 2301 GMT on Tuesday and 2259 GMT on Wednesday.
The pilots’ industrial action is the 12th walkout since last April in a long-running dispute between the pilots and management over plans to change the pilots’ transitional pension arrangements.
Currently, Lufthansa pilots can retire at the age of 55 and receive up to 60 percent of their pay until they reach the statutory retirement age of 65. Lufthansa management wants to remove this early retirement arrangement.
