The Ankara Election Board has rejected the Republican People’s Party’s (CHP) appeal for the recount of votes in Ankara, after the main opposition party complained about election fraud in numerous ballot boxes throughout the capital.
The CHP’s mayoral candidate Mansur Yavaş has claimed they had found the wrongdoings in the counting process of votes in multiple cases and argued he won against the ruling party’s candidate Melih Gökçek.
Gökçek, however, was confident he won the elections for his fifth term and recounting the votes will only increase the difference between the AKP and CHP vote to his advantage. Although not finalized, Gökçek won the election by around 24,000 votes.
The CHP is expected to make a final appeal to the Supreme Election Board (YSK) on April 5 to recount the votes.
In Antalya, the election board has also rejected the CHP’s appeal for the recount of votes , after the main opposition party complained about election fraud in numerous ballot boxes.
In the meantime, the CHP made another appeal for the cancellation of municipal elections in the Küçükçekmece province of Istanbul.
