The majority of Queenslanders are either opposed to coal seam gas extraction or are undecided about it, according to the latest Newspoll.
Forty per cent of voters said they were not in favour of the industry, while 27 per cent remain uncommitted to the issue, the Newspoll published in The Australian newspaper shows.
Among those opposed to coal seam gas there was no obvious trend in political party preference, with Labor and LNP voters opposing it almost equally.
Voters said the most important issues were health, the economy, education and law and order.
The poll showed 50 per cent of voters believed LNP party leader Campbell Newman would do a better job at handling the Queensland economy.
The LNP was also favoured in the handling of health (47 per cent), education (40 per cent) and law and order (43 per cent).
Premier Anna Bligh opened her re-election campaign on Sunday by reminding voters it was she who led Queensland through some of its darkest days.
