A 35-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested following the discovery of two bodies at a home in country Victoria.
The man was arrested in Meredith, between Geelong and Ballarat, just before 7pm (AEST) on Tuesday and remains in police custody.
Police discovered the bodies of Bill and Pauline Thomas at a home just outside of Wangaratta, in northeast Victoria, on Monday night.
Concerns were raised for their welfare when the couple failed to contact a family member for their birthday.
Homicide Squad Detective Senior Sergeant Steve McIntyre told reporters on Tuesday it was a complex and violent scene.
The home is a neighbouring property of federal MP Sophie Mirabella, who stopped at the crime scene on Tuesday to speak to journalists and police gathered there.
“Like all the other neighbours I find it sad and shocking,” Ms Mirabella told AAP.
