The military investigative judge, Imad Zein, issued an arrest warrant for the man, identified only by his first name as Hussein, on Thursday. He has been found guilty of transferring arms to the members of the rebel Free Syrian Army through the border region of al-Qaa in Lebanon’s southern region of Bekaa.
Syria has repeatedly urged Lebanese authorities to curb arms smuggling via the poorly demarcated border between the two countries.
Recently, a number of people have been arrested in Lebanon for trafficking weapons into Syria.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March last year.
While the West and the Syrian opposition accuse the government of the killings, Damascus blames ”outlaws, saboteurs and armed terrorist groups” for the unrest that erupted in mid-March, insisting that it is being orchestrated from abroad.
In interviews with Israeli news outlets over the past few months, the Syrian armed rebels have clearly expressed their vision for the future of Syria and their interest in establishing relations with the Tel Aviv regime.
Syrian people, however, have repeatedly expressed solidarity with the government.
