Manchester Airport’s Terminal 2 ‘evacuated’ after ‘suspect package found’ in departures area

Manchester Airport‘s Terminal 2 has been evacuated following the discovery of a ‘suspect package.’

The item is understood to be a bag which has been “left unattended for a long time” in the drop off area outside the building.

Passengers have taken to social media to claim that they have been told to leave the area.

One man even reported that he had been told by staff to ‘stay away from glass’ during the apparent evacuation.

A spokesman for Manchester Airport confirmed at 7.50pm tonight that an “unattended bag” had been spotted outside the terminal.

He added that it had been evacuated and cordoned off as a precaution while the situation was assessed.

The incident is at present only affecting travellers in the departures area – and not affecting the running of operations airside.

Manchester is one of the UK’s most busy airports, with hundreds of flights daily.
