MELISSA McCarthy says she blames her husband for a promotional poster which showed her to appear 30 pounds lighter.
The Heat actress joked that her actor spouse Ben Falcone made the decision for her to be digitally altered in the advertisement for her new film, The Heat.
And apparently she would have chosen to look even thinner if she had her way.
“Ben did it, and we had a big fight about it because I said I wanted it 80 per cent smaller and he said he wanted it 70 per cent,” she joked to The Hollywood Reporter at the motion picture’s New York premiere.
The changes on the United Kingdom billboards proved controversial as the curvy star had been dramatically slimmed down digitally.
Some branded her “unrecognisable” in the image.
In an interview with The Huffington Post, director Paul Feig said he was disappointed with the poster.
“That’s the problem: I have very little to do with that – especially in the foreign markets. It’s a bummer. I love Melissa exactly how she is.”
Melissa and her partner laughed that her next movie should make her appear headless on the poster since her face and neck were decreased so much this time.
Melissa was made to look much more slender on an advert for her film Bridesmaids too.
Ironically the flick was directed by The Heat’s Paul Feig.
The Illinois-born actress appears with Sandra Bullock in the comedy film.
She recently claimed she was too friendly for Los Angeles.
“I’m a Midwest girl. I’m chatty. I’ll talk to anybody. In L.A., that frightens people. You talk to somebody in a line in L.A., and it’s like you’ve asked them to remove their pants,” she laughed to More magazine.
Melissa hasn’t been tempted to change the way she looks since becoming more popular in Hollywood.
The 42-year-old star has two daughters with Ben and parenthood made her stop obsessing about her shape.
“I’ve been every size in the world. Parts of my twenties, I was in great shape, but I didn’t appreciate it. If I was a [US] 6 or an 8, I thought, why aren’t I a 2 or a 4?” she explained.
