Mortar shells fired by foreign-backed militants have hit the city of Idlib in northwest Syria, killing at least 14 people and injuring several others.
The casualties come after the mortar shells hit several parts of the city, including a residential area and a busy market.
Syrian media reports say the barrage of shells left at least 50 other Syrians wounded.
“Fourteen people were killed and more than 50 others wounded by mortars launched by the terrorists on several areas of Idlib city,” said the Syrian state channel.
No militant group has claimed responsibility for the deadly attack. However, Syrian officials say foreign-backed terrorists are behind the assault.
Idlib has been under the control of government forces since the unrest began back in March 2011.
The latest developments come as infighting continues between rival militant groups in Syria.
Earlier on Sunday, Takfiri terrorists from the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) publicly executed and crucified at least several militants who fought the Syrian government.
The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights say the incident happened in Deir Hafer in the east of Aleppo Province on Sunday.
The Britain-based group added that more than 7,000 people have been killed since January in infighting among foreign-backed Takfiri militants who are wreaking havoc on Syria
Syria has been gripped by deadly violence since March 2011. Over 160,000 people have reportedly been killed and millions displaced due to the violence fueled by the Western-backed militants.
The West and its regional allies including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey are reportedly giving financial and military support to the militants.
