The video footage went viral on Tuesday, but the protesters who were calling for impeachment of Obama were arrested Saturday on an Interstate 70 overpass near St. Louis in the state of Missouri.
Police officers said the protesters were causing accidents on a bridge sidewalk.
However, the protesters, Marc Messmer of St. Charles and Duane Weed of Bridgeton said they were not breaking any laws.
“Citizens have a right to peaceably assemble,” Messmer said. “We were simply doing that. There were no laws broken.”
Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. Al Nothum said the two were arrested for failing to obey.
The protesters also insisted that their group was not causing any problems.
“We were not on the road; we created no traffic hazard whatsoever,” Messmer said.
Messmer and Weed said they were kept in a holdover area at the St. Charles County Jail for 24 hours and released Sunday afternoon.
Saturday’s protest was a part of the nationwide “Overpasses for Obama’s Impeachment” movement initiated by James Neighbors for the months of July and August.
