From fierce flounces to slim silhouettes, from slinky silk to handcrafted funky, New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2012 presented some true standouts from designers who hold sustainability close to their hearts.
Edgy designs in wool were to be expected and they didn’t disappoint, but eco-designers continue to step up the game with a gamut of looks that defy the so-called limitations that ethical production is thought to present. In fact, by employing sustainable methods to create effects unattainable by conventional processes, conscientious designers are developing a whole new visual vocabulary along the way. Green is all grown up, and what a looker she has become.
Costello Tagliapietra
Prints were on display along the runway for Costello Tagliapietra’s Fall extravaganza, but the it was the perfectly-executed tucks, gathers, twists, and drapes that stole the show. Case in point: The lavender dreamboat of a gown shown above.
