No resignation on Oxford sex abuse case

The chief executive of Oxfordshire county council Joanna Simons said she would not resign despite mounting pressure over her organization’s failure to protect children in its care.

The chief constable of Thames Valley police Sara Thornton also announced that she is not stepping down.

“I think the focus for me is on driving improvements into the future,” said Thornton, who became chief constable in 2007.

Earlier this week, British police and council leaders apologized for their failings as the sadistic paedophile gang was convicted at the Old Bailey for extreme abuse of schoolgirls as young as 11.

According to the reports, the girls were raped, drugged, trafficked and used as prostitutes while in the so-called safe-keeping of the local authority in Oxford, southern England.
