O’Farrell stands by aides over Star sackings

Mr Grimshaw: Oh, I am. Say goodbye to Mr Nasty.

In a text on December 14 Mr Grimshaw tells his partner: ”Just read the report … watch the bullshit campaign now”.

Mr Robertson said Mr Grimshaw needed to explain how he had a copy of the report before Mr Souris received it on December 15. A spokesman for the authority last night said it emailed a copy to Mr Souris’s office on December 14.

In a December 23 exchange after media reports about the the review’s findings, Mr Grimshaw’s partner told him: ”All they need now is a sexual harassment scandal”

Mr Grimshaw: Exactly. The best thing about these stories is they put in the mind of the papers that [the Star’s] not so perfect at all.

On January 9, Mr Grimshaw emailed his partner to say Mr Lipson ”reckons [the second manager to complain about Mr Vaikunta] should lay a police complaint. That would sew it up. She does not have to proceed with it but it’s strong if the police are involved”. The casino was then undertaking an internal investigation into the allegations against Mr Vaikunta.

It is understood Mr Grimshaw and his partner were concerned about the casino’s commitment to the investigation.

Mr Vaikunta was a close friend of Larry Mullin, the chief executive of the casino’s owner, Echo Entertainment.

Mr Robertson said the emails and texts raised ”serious questions around the integrity of the Premier’s office”.

A spokesman for Mr O’Farrell said Mr Grimshaw and Mr Lipson would be stood down only if ICAC decided to investigate. Earlier Mr O’Farrell said the authority had confirmed there had been no interference by the government or a government staff member.
