A house that used to belong to Brazilian artist Victor Brecheret spent decades unoccupied serving as a Foundation and deposit until it was acquired by architect Guilherme Torres.
In a stunning remake, Torres converted the two-storey 1300 sq. feet (130 sq. meters) space into his residence and studio.

Without making any changes to the floorplan and leaving the construction almost intact, he updated the space with gaps, openings and coatings.
The house (spotted at ArchDaily) is filled with natural lightning and the spaces all ventilate to the lovely inner patio, which is covered with a retractable glass roof that lets the weather in or out according to the season.

Even if 1300 sq. feet is a pretty large apartment for city standards, Torres’ place offers some neat ideas for interaction between open and private spaces. I especially like the idea of the kitchen opening to the patio, which can offer good ventilation for a place of the house that usually needs it.
The bedroom on the upper floor has an uncovered window which also ventilates to the patio, allowing the whole house to have plenty fresh air and light.

While the home design is simple and clever, the large space in front of it could have definitely used some grass and green, perhaps even a vegetable garden. Though it’s unclear if the soil below the stones is apt.
