Another person has been killed in recent fatal clashes between Egyptian security forces and anti-government protesters, Press TV reports.
Clashes broke out after security forces attempted to disperse crowds of supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood in the capital, Cairo, on Friday.
According to a statement issued by the Egyptian Health Ministry, nearly 40 people were also wounded in the clashes.
Similar clashes broke out in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria, Egypt’s second largest city.
Egyptian security forces attacked people who had gathered to attend the funeral of a paraplegic man killed on January 30 in Alexandria.
On January 25, Egypt marked the third anniversary of the revolution that ended the rule of long-time dictator Hosni Mubarak. Nearly 50 people were killed and many others wounded in clashes across the country.
Over the past few days, Egyptians have gathered in the country’s major cities in protests dubbed, “Honoring the Martyrs”.
The country has been witnessing unrest and anti-government demonstrations since last July, when the military ousted the first democratically-elected president, Mohamed Morsi.
Following the ouster, the Egyptian army dissolved the parliament and appointed the head of the Supreme Constitutional Court, Adly Mahmoud Mansour, as interim president.
Egypt’s interim government has launched a bloody crackdown on Morsi’s supporters and arrested thousands of Muslim Brotherhood members, including the party’s senior leaders.
Amnesty International says some 1,400 people have been killed in the violence since Morsi was deposed, with most of the deaths “due to excessive force used by security forces.”
