The demonstration was held in the West Bank city of Ramallah on Wednesday.
“We are calling upon the international community to take action, and to respond to the deteriorating situation in the West Bank and Gaza. We are seeing now huge movements around the West Bank that could lead to the third Intifada,” Khader Adnan, a former hunger striker said at the demonstration.
Adnan called on the Israeli regime to release the Palestinian inmates immediately.
“It is necessary to release all prisoners with a priority for those on hunger strike,” he said.
He also added that he has been on a ten-day hunger strike to show his support for the prisoners.
On Tuesday, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon expressed deep concern about the dire conditions of Palestinian hunger strikers in Israeli jails, particularly Samer al-Issawi.
“The secretary general is deeply concerned over the rapidly deteriorating condition of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli custody who are on hunger strike,” UN spokesman Martin Nesirky said.
Administrative detention is a sort of imprisonment without trial or charge that allows Israel to incarcerate Palestinians for up to six months. The detention order can be renewed for indefinite periods of time.
