Police are hunting for a man who robbed a busy bowling club in Sydney’s south-west at gunpoint last night.

Thirty patrons and several staff members were in the bowling club at Belfield when the armed man burst in at 9:30pm.

He threatened a staff member behind the bar with a gun, demanding cash and then escaped with a small amount of money.

Inspector Ben Hopper from Campsie Police says police were called to the scene and established a perimeter around the area to search, but did not catch the robber.

“Nobody was hurt, there was no shots fired, [but] obviously the people involved were traumatised,” he said.

“Anything of this nature is obviously a terrifying event, which is why it’s so important that if anybody has any information that they come forward, no matter how minor they think that detail might be.”
