Police are refusing to confirm reports that a man whose house in Sydney’s south was sprayed with bullets was known to police.
Residents of Patrick Street in Hurstville, in Sydney’s south, told police they heard gunshots shortly after 9pm (AEST) on Tuesday.
Officers arriving at the house saw a number of bullet holes in the front fence and a wall.
An 18-year-old woman who was home at the time wasn’t injured.
Police have said they believed the shooting was targeted but they have refused to confirm radio reports that the man was know to police.
A family of three sisters and one brother live in the house, Fairfax Radio has reported.
Forensic specialists are examining the crime scene.
A spate of shootings have taken place in western and southern Sydney since mid-2011.
