Dozens of Russian and American activists have gathered in front of the US embassy in the Russian capital, Moscow, to protest against Washington’s policies, Press TV reports.
The activists, with the Anti-Globalization Movement, condemned Washington’s unilateral policies toward Russia and other countries.
They accused the US of waging an economic and political war against Moscow and its allies in the region.
The activists also criticized domestic US policies and laid flowers at the entrance of the embassy to honor a number of African-Americans who have recently been killed by American police forces.
The protesters said Washington’s policies have resulted in a reduction of global oil prices, which has threatened Russia’s economy.
This comes a day after the Russian ruble dropped four percent and was traded at around 60 per dollar in Moscow, according to Reuters. The Russian currency has lost around 60 percent of its value against the US dollar since the beginning of this year.
In recent months, Western states have imposed sanctions on Moscow’s financial and energy sectors as well as on a number of Russian nationals close to President Vladimir Putin.
The sanctions have been imposed over the accusation by the West that Moscow has a hand in the crisis in eastern Ukraine, which erupted when Kiev launched military operations in April to silence pro-Russia protests in the east. However, the Kremlin rejects the accusation.
In a tit-for-tat measure, Moscow also imposed year-long food bans on the United States, the European Union, Australia, Canada and Norway back in August. The move is estimated to cost European agricultural industries millions of dollars.
