Police believe human remains found at a South West WA beach may belong to a shark attack victim.
Peter Kurmann was diving off Stratham Beach when he was attacked a week ago.
The remains were found this morning on Preston Beach between Bunbury and Mandurah, about 80 kilometres from where the 33 year old was taken.
Inspector Geoff Stewart says the remains are yet be formally identified but it is likely they are Mr Kurmann’s.
“The remains have now been collected and they’re being conveyed to the mortuary in Perth where they will be examined and identified probably early next week,” he said.
Inspector Stewart say Mr Kurmann’s family has been notified.
“We’ll be speaking to them about getting some assistance with dental records and so forth so that will be one main way of us identifying the remains,” he said.
Police forensic officers are testing the remains but say they are unlikely to be formally identified until next week.
