RI, Aussie team up against human smuggling: Govt
Indonesia has agreed to engage in bilateral cooperation with Australia in handling cases of human smuggling involving the two countries, Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa said.
“In general, during the meeting we discussed human smuggling that has often occurred,” he said Monday, as quoted by tribunnews.com.
He said that representatives of the two countries talked about the system of cooperation and ways to communicate about the issues.
“To overcome this problem, we will work together and work out how to clearly identify the pattern of human smuggling from the distributor to its transit to Australia,” Marty said.
According to Marty, once the pattern of crime had been uncovered, Indonesia would be able to cooperate with other relevant countries to prevent human smuggling operations. (awd)
