THREE Australian soldiers have been injured in Afghanistan after their armoured vehicle hit a roadside bomb.

One soldier has returned home with non-life-threatening injuries. The other two have since been discharged from an Afghan medical centre.

They were part of a mentoring taskforce training Afghans.

The latest attack takes the total of Australian soldiers wounded in Afghanistan since the war began in 2001 to 216, while 32 have been killed.

The three soldiers were travelling in a Bushmaster just before noon on January 2 when the improvised explosive device went off.

First aid was provided at the scene. A helicopter then evacuated the trio to a nearby medical centre in Oruzgan province.

The soldiers’ families have been notified. But under military protocol, no details about the soldiers were being released.

The Defence Department said in a statement that the soldiers were in a “satisfactory condition”.

“The ADF’s primary concern is for the medical treatment of the wounded soldiers and providing support for their families,” the statement said.
