The news of Mrs Kennedy’s death was broken by Radar Online. A source told the
website: “There was an EMT [Emergency Medicine Vehicle] vehicle outside the
home about an hour ago.”
The couple was married for 16 years before divorcing in May 2010. She was
arrested on suspected drink driving charges three days later, and reports
also emerged that a complaint of domestic violence had been made and
withdrawn, allegedly after two of the couple’s children got into a fight.
Mr Kennedy, 58, a lawyer, radio host and environmental activist who is the
third of RFK’s 11 children and whose uncle was President John F Kennedy, is
currently dating actress Cheryl Hines. She is best known for playing Larry
David’s wife on the television show Curb Your Enthusiasm.
He divorced his first wife, Emily, the mother of his oldest two children, in
1994, shortly before marrying Mary, whose maiden name was Richardson. She
gave birth to their first child, Conor, three months later. They went on to
have three more children together, Kyra, William and Aiden, whose ages range
from 10 to 16.
In 1983, at the age of 29, Mr Kennedy was arrested at an airport in North
Dakota after a search of his baggage revealed he was carrying heroin.
He was spared jail after agreeing to attend Narcotics Anonymous and undertake
community service.
Mrs Kennedy is the latest member of the family to suffer from the “curse of
the Kennedys” – a series of tragedies which have struck the clan.
As well as the assassinations of President and Robert Kennedy, their brother
Edward was at the centre of a scandal after a young woman died when he drove
his car off a bridge at Chappaquiddick, Massachusetts.
The president’s son, John F Kennedy Jr, and his wife were killed in a plane
crash, two of RFK’s sons, Michael and David, died in a skiing accident and
from a drug overdose respectively.
