The aviation fleet of Russia’s Air Force has taken delivery of more than 100 combat-ready helicopters in 2013, an official says.
Russian Air Force Commander-in-Chief Lieutenant General Viktor Bondarev said during a visit to Progress Aviation Company on Wednesday that the defense manufacturer fulfilled the state order on the delivery of 14 Ka-52 “Alligator” helicopters in 2013, in addition to other helicopters.
“This year we are receiving more than 100 helicopters,” Bondarev said, adding that “[Progress] has flawlessly fulfilled this year’s task and all 14 helicopters will be delivered to the troops.”
The domestically built Ka-52 helicopters will be delivered to aviation of the Eastern, Southern and Western Military Districts.
The commander added that the Russian manufacturer will continue to deliver helicopters at regular intervals in the future.
Progress makes both Kamov Ka-52 military attack and Ka-62 light civil helicopters, according to its website.
The Russian military had previously stated that they intend to deploy the Ka-52 to the new Mistral-class amphibious assault ships, which is currently under construction.
Russia has been expanding its naval military presence around the world, particularly in the Mediterranean region amid the growing threats from the US and its Western and regional allies.
