THE star of a sci-fi movie about killer sharks tossed onto the land by tornadoes says he hopes the film could revive his career after it became a Twitter sensation.
Sharknado drew 387,000 mentions on social media, mostly on Twitter after it aired on the US SyFy channel.
The movie stars ex-Beverly Hills 90210 actor Ian Ziering as a man who sets out to save his family after a series of sharknadoes begin terrorizing Los Angeles.
Ziering, who has struggled to find success after Beverly Hills 90210 and works as a Chippendales dancer in Las Vegas, told Hollywood Reporter he hoped Quentin Tarantino might direct a sequel.
“Maybe this is my John Travolta Pulp Fiction moment,” he said. “At some point in my career, you know, if you’re lucky enough to get one, maybe this is gonna be it. Who knows?”
The most viral scene of the movie shows the 49-year-old actor using a chainsaw to cut his way out of the belly of a shark.
“We had to do that in one take because that prosthetic shark wasn’t inexpensive to make, so we had to make it right the first time,” he said. “So we made sure there was plenty of blood on me, plenty of fish guts on me, and we went for it.
“We had that moment on film where I get to have that forever now, where I’ve chainsawed my way out of the belly of a shark. And I’m proud of that!”
