“The View” co-host Sherri Shepherd may have been sitting next to Jay Leno on “The Tonight Show,” but her interview segment quickly turned into a segment from her show: hot topics.
Leno wanted to know Shepherd’s thoughts on Miley Cyrus’ controversial performance on Sunday night’s MTV Video Music Awards. Not surprisingly, Shepherd did not mince words.
“Oh, she going to hell in a twerking handbasket,” Shepherd said of the twerk-heavy routine, “That girl…”
After that, they moved on to all the changes happening over at “The View.” Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Joy Behar have both left the show. Shepherd admitted she’s surprised that she’s still around. As Leno pointed out, Shepherd and Whoopi Goldberg are now the two longest-surviving members of the panel. Of course, series co-creator Barbara Walters has been with the show since the beginning.
“I know,” Shepherd said. “Usually they kill off the two black people right at the beginning of the movie.”
She said she’s ready for the upcoming changes, including the addition of Jenny McCarthy as a new co-host. Shepherd said that she and McCarthy will probably get into a lot of trouble together — and therefore be spending a lot of time in Barbara Walter’s office.
Season 17 of “The View” kicks off on September 9. “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” airs every weeknight at 11:35 p.m. ET on NBC.
