AUSTRALIA’S touted next big thing in Hollywood, Sullivan Stapleton, along with double Oscar nominee Jacki Weaver and Down Under film collective Blue-Tongue Films are to be honoured in Los Angeles.

Stapleton, Weaver and Blue-Tongue, which includes Joel and Nash Edgerton, Spencer Susser, Luke Doolan, Mirrah Foulkes, and David Michod, will receive Breakthrough Awards by LA-based non-profit organisation Australians in Film (AIF) at a reception on October 24.

“Being recognised by this organisation of LA-based Australian peers is a humbling and memorable career moment,” said Melbourne-born Stapleton, 36, who will star in 300: Rise of an Empire, the sequel to the 2007 blockbuster movie 300.

Weaver, 66, who has been acting for more than 40 years but broke through in Hollywood in 2010 with her Oscar-nominated performance alongside Sullivan in the Blue-Tongue Australian drama-thriller Animal Kingdom and then backed it up this year with another Academy Award nomination for Silver Linings Playbook, will also receive a Breakthrough Award.

Blue-Tongue’s members will receive the AIF International Collaboration Award.
