SUPERMAN actor Margot Kidder has been forced to cancel an appearance at a special Melbourne screening of the film tonight after being rushed to hospital with pneumonia.
Kidder, who played Lois Lane in the Superman series, was due to take part in a Q and A session at The Astor Theatre in St Kilda.
The 64-year-old appeared at the Supanova Pop Culture Expo in Sydney on the weekend. She is being treated at St Vincent’s Hospital in Darlinghurst, where she was taken at midday.
Popular with fans of the superhero genre, Canadian-born Kidder has long struggled with substance abuse and mental health issues.

In 1996 she had a much-publicised meltdown after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
There were fears for her safety after she disappeared for four days from her Los Angeles home and became a street person. She was found in a backyard by homeowner and was later placed in psychiatric care.
The Astor Theatre informed cinemagoers of Kidder’s cancellation in a post on the cinema’s Facebook page.
The Superman screening will go ahead tonight at a discounted rate of $10, organisers said.
Cinemagoers who purchased tickets to the Q and A session will get a full $25 refund.
