Supply trucks attacked in Afghanistan

Local officials say Taliban fired rocket-propelled grenades and heavy machine guns at the convoy that was carrying goods to the capital Kabul.

Officials have not confirmed whether the convoy was carrying supplies to US-led military forces stationed in the war-ravaged country, but have said that no foreign troops or military vehicles were in the convoy.

This is common for the Taliban to attack supply trucks coming to Kabul, in order to disrupt the flow of military supplies.

Afghan security forces have cordoned off the site of the attack, and an investigation into the incident has begun.

Hundreds of NATO tankers, logistic convoys, and oil containers have been attacked in different parts of Afghanistan in recent years.

The Taliban spring offensive is in full swing in Afghanistan. That’s a period when attacks by militants on foreign and Afghan forces hit their peak.

The United States and its allies invaded Afghanistan in 2001 as part of Washington’s so-called war on terror.

The offensive removed the Taliban from power, but years into the invasion insecurity continues to rise across the country despite the presence of thousands of foreign troops.
