Sydney factory fire causes traffic chaos

A fire at a factory unit complex at Northmead, near Parramatta is is now under control.

The premises of two industrial businesses in the four-unit complex have been destroyed and two have been saved.

One of the units destroyed is a computer business called Australia Wide Computer Resources.

Brad Ford, a former employee, said the business stores ATMs for maintenance and repairs computer systems for major retail chains like Supre and Boost Juice.

They had millions of dollars of computer parts in the factory unit, where 15 people were employed.

Kevin Achadjian, a worker at a car wrecking yard across the road, said they heard fire alarms and saw a man from the computer factory quickly driving cars out of the workshop about 4pm.

“About 10 minutes later we saw huge black clouds of smoke coming out of the building,” he said.

About 100 workers have been evacuated and 100 firefighters from 20 surrounding stations are on the scene.

The owner of neighbouring smash repairs Parramatta Prestige, Avo Soghomoian, said he had 30 luxury cars parked across the road from the complex on fire.

“We all had to run,” he said.

The other destroyed premises is believed to be occupied by a hairdressing supplies business.

Also in the same complex but saved, is a fire and water damage repair business called Munters.
