At a Monday session with diplomats and journalists in Moscow, Zoubi briefed the plans by the government of President Bashar al-Assad to overcome the crisis in the country.
“The aim of my visit is to talk about the lies and misinformation about the situation in Syria. Information has become one of the tools in the war. There is no precedent for such falsification of information in the history of the modern world,” the Syrian information minister said.
He said that the Syrian government is fighting the international terrorism against the backdrop of such a colossal information war waged on Damascus.
The Syrian government forces have arrested terrorists from 29 countries, including Australia, Afghanistan, Libya and Saudi Arabia, Zoubi pointed out.
“The majority of Syrians support the army and the government. Internal opposition supports the government. The priority now is to fight against al-Qaeda and then we can sort out our differences. We are sure that the end to the conflict will come,” the information minister said.
Zoubi noted that the Syrian government has a political program to solve the crisis, which is based on dialogue among the Syrians regardless of their beliefs and views.
He expressed gratitude to the Russian government for its support to Syria at the time of difficulty, and called on all the countries that advocate peace and sovereignty to join efforts and stay united.
The Syrian information minister plans to attend a meeting at Russia’s Lower House of Parliament.
“Russia supports the Syrian government’s view that disputes must be resolved at the negotiation table and not by shooting each other,” said Director of Diplomatic Academy of Russia Evgeny Bazhanov.
“Russia along with China is doing everything possible to get the dialogue in Syria work. We must prevent Syria from falling into pieces,” he added.
The visit comes as Arab League Secretary-General Nabil al-Araby has rejected an appeal by UN chief Ban Ki-moon to put an end to the arming of the militants in Syria.
Meanwhile, Russia has warned the European Union against lifting an embargo on weapons supply to foreign-backed militants in Syria, saying the move violates the international law.
Syria has been gripped by a deadly unrest since March 2011, and many people, including large numbers of government security forces and army personnel, have been killed in the violence.
Damascus says the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the militants are foreign nationals.
The Syrian government says the West and its regional allies including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey are supporting the militants.
Several international human rights organizations have accused the militants operating in Syria of committing war crimes.
