Syrian army repels militants in Idlib

Syria’s official news agency SANA reported on Thursday that the militants tried to carry out an attack on the strategic Taftanaz air base in the province of Idlib.

However, the army forces “repelled the terrorists’ attempt” and inflicted heavy losses on the militants. Heavy fighting is still raging around the strategic air base.

The militants have made several attempts to take control of the Taftanaz facility over the past few months. They have also been engaged in a number of attacks on five air bases in Idlib and the neighboring province of Aleppo in an effort to chip away at Syria’s air force.

Many people, including a large number of security forces, have been killed in the turmoil that began in Syria in March 2011.

On Wednesday, at least 30 people were killed in an air raid that hit a gas station near the Syrian capital, Damascus.
