Iranian Ambassador to Lebanon Ghazanfar Roknabadi says international recognition of the Syrian nation’s right to self determination is the key to resolving the crisis in the Arab country.
At a Friday meeting with Romania’s ambassador to Lebanon, Roknabadi elaborated on the specifics of Iran’s four-point plan to settle the Syrian crisis.
In mid-March, Tehran presented the outline of the plan to visiting UN-Arab League Special Representative for Syria Lakhdar Brahimi. Tehran says it will not unveil details of the plan till the time is ripe.
Syria has been the scene of deadly violence since March 2011. The Western powers and their regional allies — especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey — have been supporting the militants operating inside Syria.
Roknabadi and the Romanian ambassador also discussed the latest developments in Lebanon and across the region.
The Iranian diplomat underlined Tehran’s policy to support the regional states and maintain its ties with all Lebanese tribes, expressing optimism over the current developments in Lebanon and Syria.
Roknabadi and the Romanian diplomat also underscored the need for promoting Lebanon’s stability, security and national integrity in the lead-up to the country’s elections due in May.
