A plea for more law enforcement in the northern NSW hometown of slain police officer David Rixon will be debated in state parliament on Thursday.
Some 18,700 Tamworth residents have signed a petition calling for the NSW government to boost officer numbers in the town and to change the way frontline police are managed.
Legislation to allow homeowners to “rightly” defend their properties against invasion, and the introduction of penalties for the parents of young offenders are among other changes called for in the region.
The region is already slated to get the largest number of the state’s new police recruits.
The petition will be debated in parliament about 4pm (AEST) on Thursday.
It was tabled in parliament nearly three weeks before Senior Constable Rixon, 41, a married father of six, was shot dead during a routine traffic stop in March.
