Teacher charged with 1980s sex assaults

A man who taught at a Sydney northern beaches high school in the 1980s has been charged with sexually assaulting three male students.

He was arrested at South Golden Beach, north of Byron Bay on the far north NSW coast, on Tuesday.

Police allege the 61-year-old man committed nine offences in 1984 and 1985 involving three male victims.

His arrest followed a two-year investigation into allegations of child sexual assault when the man was a teacher at the Sydney secondary school.

He was charged with six counts of administering an intoxicating substance to commit an indictable offence, attempting to administer an intoxicating substance to commit an indictable offence, indecent assault and supplying a prohibited drug.

He appeared at Tweed Heads Local Court on Tuesday and was granted conditional bail to appear in Lismore Local Court on March 12.
