Some 50 reciters and 40 memorizers of the holy Qur’an from about 70 countries have participated in this year’s competitions that opened on Sunday at Tehran’s Milad Tower.
Ali Mohammadi, the director of Iran’s State Endowment and Charity Affairs Organization, said at the opening ceremony that some 14 experts from Malaysia, Egypt, Algeria, Indonesia, Iraq, Syria, Turkey, Lebanon and Iran will judge the competitions during the six-day event.
Mohammadi also said that Ahmed Naina, an eminent Egyptian reciter, is among the jury members of whom five are Iranian experts, including Abbas Emam-Jom’e, Mohammad-Hossein Sa’idian, Mohammad Derayati and Abdorrasul Abaii.
An exhibition of Quranic productions is also being held on the sideline of the event. The participants are also expected to attend a seminar on Quranic research on June 21.
The 29th International Holy Qur’an Competitions will run until June 22.
