According to the UNODC (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime), the opium production in Afghanistan has increased by 49% in 2012, and should still go up by another 36% in 2013. By 2014, the country will account for 90% of world’s opium supply.
The Afghan economy is reverting almost exclusively to drugs, at a time when the international forces are getting ready to withdraw from the territory, and a new president is to be elected in April.
