How and why do events like the Boston Marathon Bombing happen? What is it that sets these fanatics off? Why would seemingly “normal young men” just lose it? How can a civilized society protect itself from such dastardly acts?

Listening to the media, the police, the FBI, psychiatrists, and reading everything you can find on the Internet, all we seem to find are more questions. Maybe there aren’t and any real answers. No sooner had the second bomb exploded than the conspiracy theorists began with the usual litany of reasons and rationale that somehow had many placing the blame at the doorstep of the government. I have to admit that as screwed up as Washington DC has been the past couple of decades, I can easily see how so many feel the government had to play a role in this in some manner.

I thought it was insane when David Sirota of Salon Magazine jumped right up and started the downhill slide of idiocy when he wrote, “Let’s hope the Boston Marathon bomber is a white American.” Has our country’s media reached such a low level that so-call reporters have really lost all sense reason and become so jaded that they are willing to validate Mark Twain’s brilliant observation that…”It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt”?

Additionally, we have MSNBC chiming in on Wednesday night, with the host Lawrence O’Donnell speaking on his program “The Last Word”, that the National Rifle Association’s successful lobbying efforts in Congress were hindering the federal criminal investigation in the Boston Marathon bombing. Somebody please point out how anyone could draw any such conclusion if his/her brain was functioning normal.

The Left (CNN, MSNBC, NBC, CBS, ABC, et al) were all waiting on baited breath for word that the Tea Party would be found to be the guilty party for the bombing, but this was offset by some of the more radical Tea Party members (yes….there really are radical members of the Tea Party just as there are radical members of the left). Judson Phillips’ Tea Party Nation would certainly have been better than an even money bet to be the first to go on the attack against the administration for failure to “keep America safe”, when he blamed Obama for the bombing because “we have a government that is not committed to protecting America and isn’t willing to destroy radical Islam.”

I believe most Americans are of the mindset that any act of terror, the first thought is that somehow Al–Qaeda would be involved, but on both sides of mainstream America we have allowed a media to be created that cares more about pushing their agenda than doing any investigative journalism. Thinking Al-Qaeda might somehow have played a role in the terror attack is not “bigoted thinking”. It is logical thinking and is where most of us are on the spectrum.

The scary part for we real Americans is that with such a lack of journalistic truth, and with so many reporters just willing to read handed-down reports from the Administration press office, getting to the truth will take much longer. We do know for a fact that the police, FBI, ATF, ICE, and the efforts of law enforcement everywhere we were able to identify the culprits remarkably fast with the help of those in attendance who had cameras rolling almost non-stop during every second of the day’s event.

It also surprised most Americans that they got hot on the trail faster than almost anyone could imagine and that within 48 hours, Chechnyan immigrant, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, age 26, had been killed by police in a fierce shootout that included explosive devices being deployed and leaving MIT Police officer Sean Collier dead. Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s 19 year old brother, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, escaped into the night causing a complete lock down of Boston and surrounding cities.

It should not surprise most normal Americans that over the next 48 hours, before the week had ended, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev would be in custody, and the conspiracy theories would begin appearing all over the Internet and chat rooms. Yes…we have shown that when our law enforcement agencies work together and when they get the support of the citizens, they can do exceptional things. Certainly with the citizens of Boston now involved, the press will be forced to get the story out. We have already figured out that if the FBI had been more proficient when the Russians forwarded their tip about the elder Tsarnaev two years ago, we might have been able to have avoided the whole bombing episode, but hindsight has always been 20-20.

More facts will surface in the coming weeks about the Boston Marathon Bombing, but it should not surprise anyone that Mayor, Thomas Monino, has been quick to say the brothers acted alone and that it appears this attack is a loan event. That’s what Americans want….quick fast answers….simple solutions. But it’s way too soon to jump to conclusions. We haven’t the foggiest idea if a sleeper cell was involved or a dozen others. We may never know because the protection afforded under our Constitution may enable the younger brother to simply invoke his right to silence, accept his right to a fair trial, and if found guilty, carry his secrets to his grave. Time will tell BUT if the press does its job (finally) we may find out more than just what comes out of the trial.
