According to locals, the bomb went off late Saturday in the city of Washir, after a vehicle came into contact with it.
City officials blame the incident on “terrorists”. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
On Friday, another three Afghans were killed by a US-led airstrike in eastern Ghazni.
According to a recent report by the United Nations, 2011 was the deadliest year on record for Afghan civilians since the start of the war in 2001.
Thousands of civilians, including women and children, have been killed as a result of the war.
Although the US-led invasion of Afghanistan in 2001 removed the Taliban from power, insecurity continues to rise in the country, despite the presence of some 130,000 US-led troops.
More than ten years into the war, Washington has now turned to negotiations with the Taliban militants.
