A tourist has been bashed into rocks after succumbing to a strong rip at a south-east Queensland beach.
The 25-year-old Irish man was rescued from the water near Double Island Point, north of Noosa, by helicopter and taken to hospital on Friday morning.
He suffered chest injuries and reported pain in his ribs, a Department of Community Safety spokeswoman says.
A 50-year-old man and four-year-old boy escaped a similar fate at a beach in Teewah, just south of Double Island Point.
A 32-year-old woman who was with them was in hospital after suffering minor injuries in the turbulent surf.
