Two men charged after fatal shooting

Two men have been charged following a fatal shooting of a man in a brazen daylight attack in south Sydney.

The 37-year-old man and two of his friends were outside his home in Selmon Street, at Sans Souci around midday (AEDT) on Wednesday when they were confronted by another man, police said.

The man allegedly got out of a dark-coloured four-wheel-drive and fired a number of shots towards the 37-year-old, hitting him in the head, hand and body.

His friends immediately ran away.

One was chased up a driveway, before jumping a fence while being shot at, police said.

The armed man then jumped back into his car and sped away along Campbell Street.

The 37-year-old was discovered by emergency services lying in the street, where he was taken to St George Hospital and pronounced deceased upon arrival.

The two friends were later taken to St George Police Station where they allegedly refused to cooperate with officers, police said.

A 23-year-old man has been charged with concealing a serious indictable offence and affray, while a 32-year-old was charged with concealing a serious indictable offence, affray, and possessing a prohibited weapon.

Both men have been refused bail to appear in Kogarah Local Court on Thursday.

Detectives attached to the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad have established Strike Force Lobbe to investigate the shooting and subsequent death.

A police spokesman said it was too early to link the shooting to bikie gangs or the stabbing of a 25-year-old man in nearby Brighton-Le-Sands a day earlier.

Two brothers were walking along Bay Street on Tuesday when a man approached them. He then allegedly stabbed one of the brothers in the leg before fleeing.

Police are appealing for anyone with information about the shooting, the armed man or the four-wheel drive to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
