Two women die in Qld head-on collision



TWO women have died in a head-on collision on a highway in far north Queensland.


The vehicles collided about 7.45pm (AEST) on Friday on the Kennedy Highway near Emerald Creek, Mareeba.

The two women who died at the scene were a 32-year-old from Mareeba and a 19-year-old from Germany, Queensland police said.

A third woman was transported to Cairns Base Hospital after sustaining a broken leg and shoulder. Her condition was stable, police said.

The highway was closed in both directions and was expected to reopen early on Saturday.

The Forensic Crash Unit are investigating.

The deaths lift Queensland’s Easter holiday road toll to three.

The Easter toll: Two in NSW, two in Victoria, two in South Australia, one in Western Australia and three in Queensland.
