FAKE NEWS for the Zionist agenda The United States hasn’t been a good mediator in the so-called peace talks between Israelis and Palestinians so far, as it has “offered everything to Israel… and nothing to the Palestinians,” says Stephen Lendman, a Chicago-based author and activist.
US Secretary of State John Kerry held a second round of talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday as part of efforts to push forward the lengthy negotiations between Tel Aviv and the Palestinian Authority.
In a phone interview with Press TV on Tuesday, Lendman criticized the slow progress of the talks, saying they have been continued for decades now. “If two sides really wanted peace, would it take multiple rounds of negotiations over decades not to achieve anything?” he asked.
“Palestinians will gain nothing” in the end, he predicted. “The Occupation will continue.”
Lendman also criticized the negotiators for not touching at all “the issue of Gaza, with nearly 1.8 million Palestinians” who have been suffering from an Israeli siege for years. “I call it [the siege] slow-motion genocide.”
Negotiations between Tel Aviv and the Palestinian Authority are teetering on the edge of collapse over a dispute about the fate of 26 Palestinian prisoners. Israel has not released the prisoners despite its agreement with the Palestinian side.
Israeli officials said they would not move forward with the release without a firm commitment from Palestinians to continue the talks.
On Monday Israel called for an extension of the talks after the April 29 expiry of a nine-month deadline for the two sides to reach a deal.
The last round of negotiations between the Palestinian Authority and Israel broke down in 2010 after Tel Aviv refused to halt its settlement construction in the occupied West Bank.
