The Kansas Highway Patrol announced that four of the five passengers onboard the aircraft died in the Friday crash and one was critically injured.
The victims were reportedly with the Evangelical Christian institution, the Oral Roberts University, and were on their way to a Christian youth rally in Iowa, according to their friends.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) announced that the twin-engine Cessna 401 aircraft crashed around 4:30 Friday afternoon northwest of Chanute City. The plane reportedly caught fire following the crash.
“The plane lost contact with air traffic control after getting permission to descend to a lower altitude,” said an NTSB spokesman, adding that “after that there was no further communication,” the NTSB said.
