US ‘plays double game’ over ISIL

A political analyst says the US pretends to be against the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) while it is actually supporting the terrorist group, Press TV reports.

“The US government is using the hyped-up threat of the ISIL extremists to throw more money and weapons at… the ISIL extremists. It is only pretending to try to put out the fire by spraying it with gasoline. In fact, it knows perfectly well that it is committing arson, while dressed up in the uniform of a firefighter,” wrote Kevin Barrett in a column on Press TV’s website on Saturday.

He added that “destabilization” is the real objective of the US double-faced policy in the Middle East.

“The real US policy goal is to hamstring, cripple, dismember and destroy Middle Eastern nations. The destabilization doctrine is set by the Zionist lobby, which dominates US Mideast policy,” the analyst wrote.

He said that Israel seeks to form balkanized sub-units countries in the Middle East and emphasized that such a Zionist-driven US policy “creates and runs extremist groups like al-Qaeda and ISIL.”

“These groups attack and destabilize Middle Eastern countries in an effort to split those countries apart. They also provide a pretext for US intervention in the region,” Barrett wrote.

He added that Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki is aware of the US intention of playing a double game and has decided to buy used fighter jets from Russia to combat ISIL militants instead of waiting for the long-promised US jets that may never arrive. Barrett said that the Iraqi premier is aware of the fact that the US is intentionally setting the stage for the ISIL’s invasion and occupation of northern Iraq by refusing to deliver aircraft.

He said that the US is not apparently in any particular hurry to help the Iraqi government prevent its dismemberment by ultra-extreme terrorists.

“If the American people ever figure out what their government is doing, it is Washington, DC, not the Middle East, that will burn to the ground,” he concluded.

On June 10, ISIL Takfiri militants took control of Iraq’s Nineveh provincial capital, Mosul. They later took control of the city of Tikrit, located about 140 kilometers (87 miles) northwest of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

Iraqi army and volunteer forces have been engaged in heavy fighting with the militants in different fronts ever since.
