‘US satisfaction drops to 24 percent’

The survey, conducted by Gallup on May 2-7, was based on nationwide telephone interviews with 1,535 American adults. Its results were released on May 14.

The results show that only 24 percent of Americans are satisfied with the situation in the US in May, a decrease from 30 percent in April and below the 25 percent average for the first five months of the year.

The poll also pointed out that the yearly average at 25 percent is less than it was last year at 26 percent, with the last five years representing the longest sustained period of low satisfaction since the agency regularly began to measure satisfaction in 1981.

The opinion poll was released as US President Barack Obama struggles to tackle issues plaguing Washington including the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombings and the Benghazi investigation.
