‘US soldier intentionally killed Afghans’

The comment comes as an American soldier goes on a shooting spree in Afghanistan’s southern province of Kandahar, killing at least 17 innocent Afghan civilians and wounding several others, early Sunday March 11 in the district of Panjwaii in southern Kandahar province.

The US soldier has been reportedly detained following the assault. The motive behind the deadly attack is, however, not known yet.

Press TV has conducted an interview with Afghan journalist Abdul Hamid Noorzad to further discuss the issue.

The following is a transcription of the interview.

Press TV: Mr. Noorzad thank you very much for joining us here on Press TV . I want to ask you if there is in a sense in the minds of Afghan people, the idea that according to US-led forces an Afghan life is worth less than that of an American life or a British life, considering the fact that every time we hear such stories they always say there will be an investigation but nothing really ever happens?

Noorzad: Thank you very much, first of all we heard a very bad news from the south of the country in Kandahar Province that this morning an American soldier opened fire on Afghan civilians that killed at least seventeen people.

Unfortunately these kinds of incidents one as intentionally that the coalition forces claim that they sometimes kill innocent people during the anti-terror operation in Afghanistan. But this time it was not unintentionally. Unfortunately it was an intentional incident that again hurt the minds and hearts of Afghan people.

For every incident we hear in Afghanistan we hear that the coalition forces or the NATO forces claim that they are doing some investigation but the result of such investigation
was never brought to Afghan people.

I believe that this kind of action does not have any place in Afghanistan. On one side American forces and coalition forces claim that they came here to protect Afghan people but unfortunately this incident shows that the American forces do not take care of the lives of Afghan people.

I believe that it’s against international laws and those people, those soldiers that are behind these kinds of attacks must be brought to justice and they must be kept accountable.

On one side because the Afghan government wants to sign a deal with US but unfortunately this kind of incident would have a direct negative impact for such a cooperation because we saw the recent incident of burning the Qur’an inside Afghanistan.

It was motivated by the excitement of Afghan people against another such disrespect to the lives of Afghan people and to the culture of Afghan people and to the Islamic issues of Muslims.

Press TV: Mr. Noorzad are you confident that at any time either American soldiers or other soldiers, US-led soldiers will ever be held accountable, realistically speaking?

Noorzad: Yes, unfortunately it’s not the first incident that took place in Afghanistan, before such an action was also done by the coalition forces in Afghanistan. In that kind of accident NATO commanders claimed that it was an unintentional incident.

But in this incident, it’s directly related to the life of Afghan people and American soldiers directly open fire on Afghan civilians. There was not an enemy suspect and other issues, for such a thing I believe that the Afghan people want Americans to bring to justice those soldiers that directly opened fire on Afghan civilians.

But unfortunately so far actually the American forces promised many times that they would investigate on these kinds of accident but unfortunately it didn’t have any result. I believe that this time if the Americans do not keep these soldiers accountable, it will have a negative impact on the two countries cooperation in the war against terror.

Because this incident took place in Kandahar province but before it was a central part of Taliban regime. I believe that if the Americans do not take any concrete action on this it would motivate more people to join the enemy attack on the American forces and navy forces in Afghanistan.

Press TV: Alright, we’ll have to leave you there for now. That was Mr. Abdul Hamid Noorizad Afghan journalist joining us from the capital Kabul. Mr. Noorizad, thank you very much for your insights here on Press TV.
