Awake Goy A note from Phil and Tova: We look forward to participating on October 21 in a thought-provoking conference at the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities. All day Saturday, and we’ll have a table. If you’re in the area, please come by and say hello! What follows is the announcement of the conference from the diverse coalition of groups listed by name at the bottom.
A broad coalition of Twin Cities organizations has come together to present a conference in Minneapolis called “Parallel Liberation Struggles: Lessons in Resistance” on Saturday, October 21, 2017, from 10 am to 5 pm.
Mondoweiss Founder and Co-Editor Phil Weiss will be among several speakers addressing the 100-year Palestinian resistance to Israel’s settler-colonial project and the similarities in violence used against Palestinians, African Americans, and Native Americans and their methods of resistance.
Discussions at the conference will engage with the framework proposed by Johan Galtung, which suggests that people under oppression suffer from three types of violence: direct, structural and cultural.
The conference will be at Keller Hall, Room 3-210, 200 Union Street SE, Minneapolis, MN. On-site registration opens at 9:30 am. Lunch will be provided. Mondoweiss will have an exhibit at the conference where books and T-shirts can be purchased.
Others who will speak at the conference include Dhoruba bin Wahad (Black Panthers), Nadia Ben-Youssef (Adalah Justice Project), Alan O. Gross (American Indian Movement), Jennifer Bing (American Friends Service Committee, No Way to Treat a Child), and Erika Levy (Jewish Voice for Peace).

The primary organizing entity, MN Break the Bonds Campaign, describes itself as “Palestinians, Jews, Christians, Muslims, students, professionals, parents, community members and allies working together to bring Palestine-centric education to Minnesota in order to promote justice and human rights.”
Partners in planning the conference include Women Against Military Madness, Anti-War Committee, Middle East Peace Now, Jewish Voice for Peace – TC, National Lawyers Guild, American Muslims for Palestine, Students for Justice in Palestine, Minnesotans Against Islamophobia, and Socialist Action.
