‘West knows Iran N-energy red lines’

Hossein Sobhaninia made the remarks at an interview with the Islamic Consultative Assembly News Agency (ICANA) on Sunday.

The Iranian MP stated, “The West cannot bring Iran to its knees” by imposing sanctions on the country.

He added that the West should have noticed by now that the Islamic Republic has adhered to the principle of peaceful nuclear energy program.

Later in the day, the Iranian delegation for talks with the P5+1 group (Britain, China, France, Russia, the United States, and Germany) arrived in the capital of Kazakhstan, Almaty.

Iran and the P5+1 group have held several rounds of talks with a focus on Iran’s nuclear energy program. The last round of negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 group was held in Moscow in June 2012.

The Iranian negotiating delegation in the Moscow talks was led by Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Saeed Jalili and the P5+1 group was headed by EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton.

The United States, Israel, and some of their allies have repeatedly accused Iran of pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program.

Iran rejects the allegations, arguing that as a committed signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), it has the right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

In addition, the IAEA has conducted numerous inspections of Iran’s nuclear facilities but has never found any evidence showing that Iran’s civilian nuclear program has been diverted to nuclear weapons production.
