Why You Should Consider Buying Microsoft’s New Surface Tablet

COMMENTARY | Microsoft on Monday unveiled its new Surface tablet that has many tech enthusiasts hailing it as a true iPad competitor. While there are still many unanswered questions, the Surface tablet seems very impressive and here’s why.

The Microsoft Surface tablet sports many of the standard tablet features, including a 10.6-inch HD touchscreen, a front and rear camera, thin frame, and an overall modern tablet look and feel, but there’s more to the Surface than meets the eye.

The Surface will come in two versions: Surface and Surface Pro and will run on Windows RT and Windows 8 Pro operating systems, respectively. Microsoft is being a bit secretive with the full specs list, but the standard Surface tablet will feature a USB 2.0 port, micro SD slot, a Micro HD port, and will come in both 32GB and 64GB storage versions. The Pro will share the same features as the standard version, but packs bonuses like a USB 3.0 slot, Mini Display Port, and microSDXC slot.

One of the most noteworthy features of Microsoft’s new tablet is its innovative cover. At first glimpse the Surface’s cover looks like an iPad Smart Cover rip-off, but at second glance its built-in keyboard and pen, kickstand capabilities, magnetic snap, and protection makes it one of the coolest tablet accessories on the market.

There are still lots of questions that need to be answered, but from what I’ve seen, I’d definitely consider buying the Microsoft Surface. It’s sleek and thin like the iPad, has a cool and useful protective cover, works like a laptop, and I can’t wait to see what Windows 8 Pro does for app developers.
