45 arrested in Vic festival drug haul

Police have arrested 45 revellers and seized a haul of illegal drugs at a music festival in Melbourne.

Sniffer dogs were used to detect and seize drugs at the Future Music Festival at Flemington Racecourse on Sunday.

Among the drugs seized were more than 90 ecstasy tablets, amphetamines, cocaine, cannabis, GHB and a small amount of prescription drugs and steroids.

Police say 44 people were arrested for drugs offences. Of them, 36 were referred to a drug diversion program, four were charged and four received cautions.

One person was arrested for being drunk in a public place.

The police operation also detected six suspected drug-drivers.

The drivers, all male and aged between 20 and 35, are awaiting further drug testing results.

Police fined seven other motorists for driving offences.
